NATURE AS AN ALLY: ALIEN INVASIVE PLANTS AS PHYTOPHARMACEUTICALS
Can invasive species be a source of valuable bioactive phytochemicals?
How to make the best use of invasive species as providers of new ecosystem services?
Is the key to ecosystem balance and biodiversity conservation in the use of invasive species?
NATURALLY is a research project with the general objective to explore the potential of the four alien invasive plant species extracts for the application as phytopharmaceuticals: black locust, Jerusalem artichoke, Canada goldenrod, and tree of heaven.

Domestic and introduced species have significant social, economic, landscape and ecological value and provide a range of ecosystem services. Since today it is very difficult to avoid the introduction and spread of alien species we are faced with the challenging task of achieving and maintaining balance in the so-called “New ecosystems”. How to achieve this? The NATURALLY project wants to explore one of the possibilities.
